On June 26, 2018, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the conclusion of the Sino-Japanese Treaty on Peace and Friendship, Mr. Morihiro Hosokawa, former Prime Minister of Japan and Director of the Eisei Bunko Museum (NPO), donated 36 collections of over 4,000 items of Chinese ancient books to the National Library of China. This is the largest donation of Chinese ancient books from Japan to China since 1949, which has played a positive role in promoting Sino-Japanese folk cultural exchanges and cooperation in the new era.These donated Chinese ancient books are well preserved, including 25 collections written in Chinese and 11 collections written in Japanese, 793 volumes in total, covering the four branches of literature - Confucian classics, historical records, philosophical writings and miscellaneous works. Some of them are Chinese ancient books that have long been lost in China. The National Library of China has digitized all these books, divided and indexed 5 collections based on sub-categories, and classified them into the four branches of literature, so as to provide convenient access for researchers and readers around the world.
